Politically exposed person — a person who, in the Republic of Latvia, another Member State or third country,
is or has been entrusted with a prominent public function, including a Head of State, Head of a State
administrative unit (local government), Head of Government, a Minister (a Deputy Minister or a Deputy to the
Deputy Minister, if such position exists in the relevant country), a State Secretary or other high ranking
official in the government or State administrative unit (local government), a Member of Parliament or a member
of a similar legislative structure, a member of the political party management structure (board), a Judge of
the Constitutional, Supreme or other level Court (a member of the court institution), a board or a council
member of the Court of Auditors, a member of the council or of the board of the Central Bank, an ambassador, a
chargé d'affaires, a high-ranking officer of the armed forces, a member of the council or board of a State
capital company, a head of an international organisation (a director or a deputy director) and a member of the
board or a person with a similar position in this organisation.
Family member of a politically exposed person - person who is a spouse of the politically exposed person or
deemed as his/her spouse. A person shall only be considered as an equivalent to a spouse if the laws and
regulations of the relevant country establish such status, A child of a politically exposed person or a child
of the spouse or a person equivalent to a spouse, his/her spouse or a person equivalent to a spouse, parent,
grandparent or grandchild, brother or sister.
A person closely related to a politically exposed person — a natural person regarding which it is known that
this person has a business or any other close relationship with any politically exposed person, as well as a
natural person being the only owner of a legal formation regarding which it is known that it has actually been
established in favour of a politically exposed person.
